About the Diocese of Oxford

The Diocese of Oxford's unique combination of buildings, volunteers, voluntary giving and involvement in the lives of the community make it the largest self-funded voluntary organisation in the Thames Valley.

The Diocese of Oxford has an estimated population of 2,123,000. It is the fourth most populous diocese in the Church of England. More or less covering the counties of Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire, it is the fifth largest in land area (covering 2,221 square miles) and it has by far the largest number of parishes and churches - 300 benefices, 623 parishes, and 814 churches served by almost 900 licensed ministers. Most recent figures show that there are 51,165 people on the electoral rolls of the diocese.

At a time when the Church has difficulties in attracting young people to its services, the diocese has 47,000 children attending its schools.

The work environment

Diocesan Church House on the outskirts of Oxford is the home of the Oxford Diocesan Board of Finance, the administrative functions of the diocese.  The Bishop of Oxford also has his offices at Church House.  With a staff of just over 70 people, Church House is a busy and welcoming place.  We have many visitors passing through our doors every week and hold many events and training courses throughout the year.

Our Vision

Living Faith for the Future is the vision for the Diocese of Oxford.  It offers a strategic framework for the life and work of the Church of England in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.  In essence it is about sustaining spirituality and holistic mission.

The vision, values, purpose and priorities of Living Faith are set out in full on our website
