Job Description

The Bishop of Southwark with the Earl of Dartmouth wishes to appoint a Vicar of Sydenham St Bartholomew


St Bartholomew’s is a significant grade 2* listed church in a strategic position with a central style of worship where music plays an important part in the liturgy. We have an ethnically diverse congregation averaging 80+ people for our main Sunday Eucharist and up to 16 people attending the 8am 1928 BCP service. The parish is committed to growing and developing lay participation in worship and the life of the church and has an active partnership with our local Church of England Primary School.



We are seeking a Vicar who will:

  • Be a leader with a commitment to outreach
  • Present new and challenging ideas in a way that will unify and inspire all worshippers to re-affirm their Christian commitment
  • Encourage and develop the faith of new churchgoers and build up our work with families, children and young people
  • Recognise and value prayer as the foundation of the life and work of the Church.
  • Respect the traditions of our worship and ensure it is accessible to all
  • Value the beauty and heritage of our buildings and be committed to their development to serve the needs of the community and preserving them for future generations
