Recruiter:

Ref: JN013477

The Bishop of Southwark together with the Earl Spencer, as Patron, wish to appoint an experienced, hospitable and prayerful priest to be the next incumbent of St Mary’s Church in Battersea.

St Mary’s is the ancient Parish Church of Battersea, in the London Borough of Wandsworth. A church has been situated here on the bank of the river Thames since the 8th Century.

St Mary’s is a thriving and diverse community of Christians which welcomes people of all backgrounds irrespective of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or economic or religious background; it endeavours to serve all its neighbours that together all may know more of the love of God in Christ.

The parish has a choral and Eucharistic focus to its worship with a high value placed on its preaching. It is seeing people coming to faith and growing in their faith with this style of worship as its bedrock.

A priest is sought who

  • Has a deep spirituality and a warm outgoing manner, genuinely interested in others
  • Is an inspirational, creative and theologically ‘open’ preacher and a confident communicator
  • Has demonstrable leadership skills with good strategic capability
  • Will work collaboratively and collegially with the PCC, congregation and local partners
  • Will enjoy living and working in Battersea

We offer a congregation deeply committed to their faith, to welcoming others and to engaging in the community.
