The ancient Devon town of Totnes and its surrounding rural parishes offer a unique context for ministry, spanning the spectrum from the firmly traditional to the decidedly unconventional. Faithful churches with a commitment to excellent worship and pastoral care work alongside a wide range of local organisations including Dartington Hall, Schumacher College, and the Sharpham Estate in an exceptionally rich and varied cultural environment. There are areas of severe deprivation and considerable wealth.
The new Team Rector will offer strong, enabling leadership within a team of gifted colleagues. He or she will be:
- a spiritual leader: inspiring as a teacher, thinker, communicator
- a team builder: strategic, inclusive and sensitive to others
- a manager of change: energetic in the cause of growth
Key priorities for the next stage are implementation of a strategic Mission Action Plan for the benefice, and in the town a £4 million restoration and reordering project at St Mary’s Priory Church.
Totnes is at the centre of the beautiful South Hams of Devon, with easy access to the coast path, Dartmoor, the cities of Exeter and Plymouth, major roads, and a mainline railway station a short walk from the Rectory (Paddington from 2 hours 50 minutes).
