Job Description

The Bishop of London wishes to appoint a Rector

We seek an optimistic, engaging parish priest to be an ambassador for our parish at the heart of a great world city.

St Giles-in-the-Fields is a church with great upward momentum. We benefit from a secure financial and administrative foundation and offer a strong base to expand our Christian ministry over the coming decade.

We are looking for a leader who will help us to prioritise our opportunities for mission and ministry and define a realistic, Christ-centred path for the coming decade.

The successful candidate will be:

  • Experienced in developing innovative approaches to pastoral ministry, with exceptional preaching and communication skills, founded in a good theological education
  • Respectful of tradition, with a genuine commitment to the Book of Common Prayer as a living liturgical tradition and thoughtful about how that tradition can be refreshed and renewed
  • A competent manager, who is confident to lead decision-making, with a common sense approach to problems and a genuine desire to drive the parish’s mission forward
  • Skilled at building constructive relationships, with the ability to identify people’s talents and harness them to the church’s mission

St Giles-in-the-Fields is a church of blessing, encouragement and praise, where knowing and being known by our local community are key to our mission. We maintain a distinctive worship tradition rooted in the Book of Common Prayer and Authorised Version of the Bible. Excellence in church music and preaching are important to us.

We are an outward looking church and engage in a wide range of mission activities in the West End, including supporting the homeless community, the arts and children’s work. Through the St Giles & St George Charities, we also make significant grants to address educational and financial need in central London.

We are committed to be collegial with other local churches, to share our resources with those in need and to play our part in the Diocesan vision for every Londoner to encounter the love of God in Christ.

Parish Profile and application form available from:
