Priest in Charge

East Midlands

Ref: JN004946

Job Description

Newbold de Verdun

of the Parishes of Newbold de Verdun,

Barlestone, Kirkby Mallory and Peckleton

We are looking for a priest-in-charge who will thrive on the joys and challenges of rural ministry. Our four parishes are situated in the south-west of Leicestershire and have populations ranging from c. 4200 down to 240. Though rural, we are not ‘cut off’, being some 10 miles from the centre of Leicester, well served by road and rail networks and within easy reach of East Midlands and Birmingham airports.

Good communication and leadership skills, sustaining and extending each church’s mission, and nurturing parishioners’ spiritual well-being can be taken as necessary requirements for any priest-in-charge, but there are certain aspects of the post that are particular:

  • to respect and maintain the different styles of worship in the four parishes
  • to work collaboratively with community groups and other church denominations here
  • to support and develop outreach initiatives, especially towards schools, families and young people
  • to encourage more lay leadership to help secure our churches’ futures
  • help us address the challenging questions that are presented by and to our faith in the 21st century

Application forms and parish profile are available from:
