The Hospital of St Cross, established in 1132, is an historic site comprising a Norman Chapel, gardens and impressive Tudor buildings. There are also almshouse apartments which provide sheltered accommodation for 25 elderly residents. The Hospital is open to visitors.

 

The Master and Trustees of the Hospital of St Cross seek to appoint a Porter. This is a pivotal role at the Hospital and one which has been in existence for centuries. The Porter is based in the Porter’s Lodge from which the traditional Wayfarer’s Dole is still available to pilgrims and visitors upon request.

The Porter lives on site and is responsible for security, managing a small shop and for providing a warm welcome and information to visitors.

 

The successful candidate will be interested in learning about the Hospital’s history. In addition to the daily responsibilities the Porter has a number of ceremonial duties in the Chapel of St Cross

A full time, permanent position.

 

Core hours are 9.30 am-5.00 pm Wednesday to Sunday (less between Oct and Mar) plus unlocking and securing the Hospital on duty days.

 

Accommodation provided (2-bedroom flat above the Porter’s Lodge)

 

Salary £25,000 p.a.
