Organist or Director of Music

Christ Church, East Sheen

London and Home Counties

Ref: JN008469

Job Description

Christ Church, East Sheen (part of the Mortlake with East Sheen team ministry in south west London) is seeking an enthusiastic, talented and able musician to take up the post of either Organist or Director of Music. The position will involve playing the organ at services (and the exciting opportunity to develop a new choir if Director of Music), as part of a varied programme of musical activities and events with which to attract and engage the local community.

The successful applicant will be an outstanding organist, expected to play a range of traditional and modern worship music to accompany our Sunday services. In addition, he or she should feel confident in assembling and managing an ‘all-age’ choir and compiling and managing the wider musical programme.

The post would suit a positive, energetic and creative person with a sound musical background embracing different musical styles and the willingness to take a lead role in connecting Christ Church with its local community using music. There will be a focus on encouraging younger members to join the new choir, drawing from the large number of young families in the area.

The Director of Music will be employed by the PCC that serves the Team Ministry as a whole, but will be assigned exclusively to Christ Church, and will be paid according to the scale set by the Royal School of Church Music.

Please note: this appointment will initially be on an interim basis because of a forthcoming interregnum at the church. The expectation is the role would continue after the appointment of a new Vicar.
