This is an exciting time in the Ministry Area of Port Talbot and we are looking for an engaging and collaborative priest with excellent people skills to be our Ministry Area Leader (MAL) and lead us into the next stage of our mission and ministry in the local area. In January 2022 the Rectorial Benefice of Aberavon (registered charity 1130785) will become part of the new Ministry Area (MA) of Port Talbot, joining with the parishes of Margam, Cwmavon and Baglan. This will join Aberavon's four churches, three halls and purpose-built St Paul's community Centre together with Margam's ancient abbey and newer dual-purpose church/hall building, and three churches and two halls in Cwmafan and Baglan, offering many and varied opportunities for outreach, worship and service to the community.
The MAL will lead a team of at four clergy, along with a Reader and committed lay volunteers. We have links with many of the local schools, Street-wise youth work, uniformed organisations, Mothers' Union, and an active commitment and engagement with the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham and the Cell group and a Rosary group meets regularly. All the churches have worship that is mainly Eucharistic, with a tradition of many mid-week Masses in the Aberavon churches, as appropriate to its Anglo-Catholic heritage.
We are looking for a priest who will help with healing in the community, enjoy collaborative ministry, is rooted in prayer and growing in discipleship for themselves and others, inspire us with their preaching, and help us to grow in depth and number, meeting the evolving needs of the local area.
