Job Description

 

Union Theological College in Belfast is the denominational college of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland. To help support the further development of the work of the College, we have the following opportunities for Lecturers to join our dedicated team:

 

Role Summary of Lecturers:

To contribute to the mission and vision of Union Theological College by providing high-quality teaching, as well as academic and pastoral support for students, and thereby to participate in the Christian ministry and mission of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.

 

Lecturer in Biblical Studies – New Testament

3 Years initially

Salary £29,074 - £34,974 per annum

 

Essential Criteria:

  • A PhD in New Testament from a recognised University or academic institution
  • The ability to teach New Testament Greek

Lecturer in Biblical Studies – Old Testament

3 Years initially

Salary £29,074 - £34,974 per annum

 

Essential Criteria:

  • A PhD in Old Testament from a recognised University or academic institution
  • The ability to teach Biblical Hebrew

Lecturer in Practical Theology & Pastoral Theology

3 Years initially

Salary £29,074 - £34,974 per annum

 

Essential Criteria:

  • A PhD in a relevant area of Theology from a recognised University or academic institution

 

Applicants for each role must also meet the following Essential criteria:

 

  • Willingness to obtain a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education
  • Demonstrable evidence of being a reflexive practitioner in ministry, combining theology
    with practice
  • 2 years’ experience of leadership in a Christian congregation or para-church organisation
  • Proven administrative competence e.g. organisational skills, report writing, etc.
  • Appropriate IT skills and experience
  • A personal Christian faith, normally demonstrated by active membership of a Christian congregation (the essential nature of this post requires that the successful candidate be a Christian as provided for under excepted occupations in the Fair Employment Treatment (NI) Order 1998)
  • Must evidence an understanding of, and commitment to, working within the Christian ethos and doctrinal framework of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland
  • Respectful of the diversity of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, including theological diversity
  • Willing to be flexible in working arrangements and hours to suit the needs of the post
