The Bishop of Chichester acting on behalf of the Archbishop of Canterbury seeks a priest of prayer and spiritual insight, with enthusiasm for village life to serve these two rural parishes in a single benefice.
These thriving communities (combined population 3,150) are set in a beautiful part of the East Sussex countryside, within seven miles of the coast. There is a wide range of residents, including farmers, retired people, commuters and students.
The parishes (combined ER 123: USA: 55-60) enjoy close links with Herstmonceux Church of England primary School (currently rated Good by Ofsted), as well as with a variety of other local institutions, including Queen’s University, Ontario, which bases student programmes at Bader College, Herstmonceux Castle. The new Incumbent will receive strong support from ordained colleagues, a faithful lay team and active PCCs.
The two Grade 1 listed churches, dating from the twelfth and thirteenth centuries are steeped in the spiritual peace that comes from centuries of prayer and worship, and are also active in mission, community life and environmental concern.
There is a modern, well-appointed rectory in Herstmonceux, with a good sized garden.
