Choral and Harold Thornber Organ Scholarships Blackburn Cathedral

North West

Ref: JN008341

Job Description

Blackburn Cathedral is renowned for its generous acoustic and iconic Organ. We are now seeking to recruit the next generation of Choral and Organ scholars.

We seek to appoint up to three Post-Graduate (or outstanding Undergraduate) ATB Choral Scholars (generously supported by the Piling Trust and Ouseley Trust,) and one Harold Thornber Organ Scholar, from September 2020. The Organ Scholar will be on-site during the week, and involved in daily Music Department work. Duties for the Choral Scholars will only include Thursday evening rehearsals, Friday evening rehearsals and Sunday services in term-time, major Christian festivals and Concerts. There are no mid-week duties for Choral Scholars, and the Cathedral has partnered with a local recruitment agency to assist in finding employment in the area. Blackburn is within easy commute of Manchester, Liverpool, and Lancaster. We offer year-round rates-covered accommodation in our purpose-built ‘Scholary,’ and £5,000 per annum (£6000 for the Organ Scholar). These positions may be extended beyond a year, subject to funding, and mutual agreement.
