The Archbishop of Canterbury is the senior bishop and principal leader of the Church England, the symbolic head of the worldwide Anglican Communion and the diocesan bishop of the Diocese of Canterbury. He is, ex officio, the Metropolitan Archbishop of the Province of Canterbury, which covers the southern two-thirds of England. The Archbishop carries various 'Metropolitical responsibilities' for the Southern Province of the Church of England. The Bishop at Lambeth holds this portfolio on behalf of the Archbishop and the Executive Assistant manages it on a day-to-day basis, providing specialist advice on the subject at Lambeth Palace.
The Archbishop of Canterbury carries various 'Metropolitical responsibilities' for the Southern Province of the Church of England. In this exciting new role, based at Lambeth Palace, you will have day-to-day responsibility for a number of the Archbishop's most important 'Metropolitical' functions, including the patronage of benefices, clergy discipline, and other matters that the Archbishop must deal with as Metropolitan of the Canterbury Province.
This is a position of particular responsibility, requiring technical knowledge and skills, that falls within the office of the Bishop at Lambeth. As an experienced communicator, you will act with a high degree of discretion and diplomacy, demonstrating good judgement when dealing with urgent and complex matters across a wide range of issues.
