Director of Music/Organist
St. John the Baptist seeks to appoint an experienced choral trainer/conductor with artistic flair and vision to develop its thriving musical tradition in keeping with the church’s ethos and traditions. The church has a Steinway grand piano and a recently restored 3 manual Norman & Beard organ. The church hosts monthly lunchtime concerts and is one of the principal venues for the annual Wimbledon International Music Festival.
The role includes – directing a voluntary mixed- voice adult chamber choir at Sung Eucharist on Sundays (10.15 am) recruiting new members for the choir and leading rehearsals (currently on Friday evenings from 6.30 – 7.30pm and Sunday mornings at 9.15 am.) building a children’s choir; playing the organ for all services; liaising with the Vicar to plan services and developing the regular Friday lunchtime recitals.
Remuneration is offered in line with RSCM recommendations,
plus weddings and funeral fees.
