DDO and Director

of Vocation and Formation

East Midlands

Ref: JN009779

Job Description

We are looking for the right person to succeed Canon Steve Benoy as our next Diocesan Director of Ordinands (DDO), and Director of Vocation and Formation, leading a team of employed and volunteer clergy and laypeople, covering recruitment, selection and training of lay ministers, as well as encouraging and discerning vocations to ordained ministry, supporting ordinands through their training and their curacy, and facilitating lifelong clergy ministry development.

This is a complex role, requiring significant skills and experience:

  • a priest who will almost certainly have served at least one incumbency
  • experience of seeing people from their own church go into training for ministry
  • an excellent preacher and communicator
  • a passion to see more people in lay and ordained ministry
  • a strong team player and team leader
  • a clean driving licence and a willingness to travel the diocese and beyond
  • wisdom in discernment
  • the ability to make tough decisions and communicate them kindly
  • the skill to carry a heavy and detailed admin workload and remain cheerful
  • the vision to see and re-shape the strategic picture.

We want someone able to start as soon as possible after 1 May 2022. The post will be based at our Northampton office, and be paid at the rate for a residentiary canon.
