College Chaplain

St Catharine's College

East Anglia

Ref: JN006781

Job Description

Applications are invited from graduates who are ordained priests of the Church of England (or of a Church in full communion with it) for the post of Chaplain, ideally from a date not later than 22 April 2019. The Chaplain is appointed for a fixed term of four years. Within that term, the office-holder may apply to serve for a further period as Dean of Chapel. Such application would be assessed on the basis of performance in the chaplaincy together with additional criteria, including academic merit.

The Chaplain is fully responsible for the administration and organisation of the life of the Chapel, and for leading its services. The College has a strong Choral tradition, including the first College-based girls’ choir in the country, and it is expected that the Chaplain will maintain and encourage this, in collaboration with the Director of College Music. The Chaplain is expected to be pastorally available to all members of the College community, regardless of faith.

The Chaplain will be elected to an Official Fellowship of the College. The Chaplain will also have the opportunity of pursuing scholarly interests and, if appropriate, will be encouraged to undertake a limited amount of teaching.

A stipend equivalent to the Ely Diocesan scale for incumbents is offered together with the allowances accorded to Fellows of the College.
