Job Description

Whiteley Village is seeking a resident part time (Sunday plus 2-3 days) Spiritual Care Lead, preferably with 3 years’ experience in the Church of England or another Anglican church in the British Isles, to lead services in our Church and deliver pastoral support to our residents. They will become part of the communities of people who live and work here and recognise the burdens that can come with growing older and will be approachable and accessible to our Villagers.


This is a part-time post which offers a house for duty and flexible working hours on the
understanding that you will be available at a variety of times to your neighbours and to
those who are sick, whether in the Village or hospital.


The Village is a charitable retirement community supporting nearly 500 older people of limited means with its unique combination of 255 Grade II listed cottages and three care homes set in a beautiful woodland location.


We are looking for a Priest to:

  • Be an inspirational preacher who will lead us in worshipping God in our Church and our community
  • Provide pastoral and spiritual support for our Villagers and their families, our
    congregation and our staff, tailoring your approach to reflect their own faiths and beliefs
  • Willing to undertake home / hospital visits including distribution of Communion
  • Develop, build and maintain good relationships ministering sensitively and with good humour and being particularly sensitive to the needs of older people
  • Respond effectively to the wider needs of the Village and local community and play a visible role in all aspects of Village life, encouraging a spirit of openness and generosity
  • Lead teaching / discussion groups
  • Provide leadership to invigorate and grow the Church of St. Mark’s, which is also
    open to non-Villagers, with inspiration and sensitivity
  • Strengthen links with our neighbouring Churches, and the Diocese of Guildford
