Salary:

Salary: Grade 6 £27,116 - £33,309 per annum, pro rata

Ref: JN009485

Job Description

Permanent and Part-time 0.5FTE (with the possibility of a subsequent further appointment in the Diocese of Durham)

Two Colleges of Durham University are seeking to appoint a joint Chaplain to lead in the provision of pastoral, spiritual and religious support to all members, of all faiths and beliefs. Hatfield College, where the Chaplain will be based, has a Chapel Licensed for Divine Service. Hence, the successful applicant will be required to be licenced by the Bishop of Durham. St Cuthbert’s Society does not have its own chapel, but has had both lay and ordained chaplains in the past.

The Chaplain will be involved in a wide range of activities, especially in relation to the personal development of students, as well as being actively engaged in broader College life in both Colleges. S/he will work closely with both Colleges’ student support teams and the University’s Co-ordinating Chaplain.

Both regular and special services are held in Hatfield Chapel, supported by the College Chapel Choir, Choral and Organ Scholars. St. Cuthbert’s has a Chapel Choir which regularly sings at services in a local church.

In collaboration with the Diocese of Durham, the Hatfield and St Cuthbert’s Chaplaincy might be combined with a part-time role in the Diocese, such as a parish or other chaplaincy post. Interested applicants should contact the Revd Gavin Wort, Coordinating Chaplain, at gavin.wort@durham.ac.uk to explore possibilities.

At Durham University, our aim is to create an open and inclusive environment where everyone can reach their full potential and we believe our staff should reflect the diversity of the global community in which we work. We welcome and encourage applications from members of groups who are under-represented in our work force including people with disabilities, women, and black, Asian and minority ethnic communities.
