The Church of England Pensions Board provides retirement services for those
who have served or worked for the Church. It is the Trustee of four pension
schemes and administers pensions for over 40,000 people working for more than
520 employers and is a charity which houses around 2500 retired clergy and their
dependants, mainly through affordable rental housing, shared ownership, and
supported living schemes. Pensions and charitable funds under investment total
in excess of £2.6bn and the Pensions Board actively engages with companies it
invests in, in line with its robust, industry-leading ethical investment policies.
The Pensions Board is now seeking to appoint a successor to Jonathan Spencer,
who has reached the end of his term. This is a significant and high-profile role which

demonstrable record of senior leadership in substantial roles in the financial, public
or third sector and proven chairing and board level experience, you will have the
ability to help shape strategy, ensure robust governance arrangements and lead
sustainable change. You will have the intellectual rigour, relationship skills and
political sensitivity to be credible and influential across all our key stakeholders
and will be an outstanding communicator.
The Chair is an ex-officio member of the General Synod of the Church of England
and, as such, this position carries an Occupational Requirement that the appointee
be a communicant member of the Church of England. Part 1 of Schedule 9 of the
Equality Act 2010 applies to this appointment.
