Job Description

Jesus College is seeking to appoint an Assistant Chaplain (‘Dean’s Clerk’) to join in the life of the Chapel and assist the Dean of Chapel in pastoral duties for an average of 16 hours a week during term, and 8 hours a week outside of term. The post is open to both ordained priests in good standing in the Church of England or other church in full communion with the Church of England, and also to lay people interested in exploring vocation. Precise duties are to be negotiated, but would include some or all of the following: occasional officiating and/or preaching at the Saturday and Sunday services, as well as helping with pastoral offices in term and weddings out of term; pastoral presence in the College and at College events, especially in the graduate, staff, and choir communities; and working with the Dean to develop chapel-related activities. The position would begin at the start of the Michaelmas Term 2018, initially for a period of one year but with the possibility of a one-year extension thereafter, and the postholder would receive £8,331 per annum. The post is ideally suited for someone looking for flexible part-time work, opportunities for professional development within university chaplaincy, or experience within which to explore vocation.

whom should be either the candidate’s bishop (where the applicant is a priest) or parish priest (where the applicant is lay), to the HR Manager .uk by the 23rd July 2018. Interested applicants should also write a cover letter indicating why they are attracted to the post as well as what they would bring to the role and hope to gain from it. If available, interested applicants should also include an example of a recent sermon they have preached. Interviews are anticipated to be held on the 7th August 2018.
