Job Description

Our Archdeacons:

shaping the church for mission

Following the appointment of Simon Burton-Jones to be Bishop of Tonbridge,

the Bishop of Rochester seeks an

Archdeacon of Rochester

to serve an Archdeaconry encompassing the Thames-side communities of Medway and North-West Kent.

Are you a priest:

  • who has a life rooted in a discipline of prayer so as to sustain yourself in a role and setting that can be quite solitary;
  • who can foster mission with enthusiasm and imagination, looking to the needs of the future of the Church, committed to the ‘dual-economy’ model of mission and ministry;
  • who can work comfortably within formal and legal structures and have the skills to apply them in pastoral and creative ways;
  • who has a broad understanding and experience of ministry in a leadership role, such as to give clergy confidence in your judgement and advice;
  • who has the confidence and resilience to stand firm - and be sustained - in dealing with circumstances of (sometimes protracted) conflict;
  • who will be a loyal friend and colleague within the Bishop’s Leadership Team, able to work collaboratively, with energy, good humour, theological insight and pastoral wisdom?

The Bishop of Rochester encourages applications from women and BAME priests and priests with disabilities, who are under-represented on the Bishop’s Leadership Team. This post is subject to DBS enhanced disclosure
